How does this work, 7800 is for 10 speed and won't work for 9 speed cassettes?
7700 will or will not work with 10 speed cassettes?
Please, what's the downward/upward compatibility of Dura-Ace 7700 & 7800 ?

thanks

OK-7700 and 7800 stuff is cross compatible EXCEPT front ders, which are
not...they can be made to work but 7800 fronts and 7700 STI, and vice
versa, are not ideal.

And the 7800 hubs are 10S only if I understood this well.

Except that Shimano isn't always forthcoming about compatibility. They
will sometimes declare combinations as incompatible when they are
compatible, for marketing / sales / profit motives. Don't get me wrong,
Shimano is usually the most bang for buck, but sometimes they won't
admit to the maximum bang.

The best reference I know of for this sort of info is Sheldon @

Hope this helps, John

If you used Campy Ergo 10 with a Campy rear derailleur, you could
shift Shimano 9/10 and Campy 10.

I forget... does Shim10 work straight, no mods, with Campy 10? The spacing
is going to be 2mm off at the extremes...

I'm glad that American Classic Campy Conversion cassettes are as cheap as
Ultegra 10 cassettes. Yay for cheap Shimano hubs!

Yes it does and it isn't 2mm 'off' at the extremes.

The difference is .17mm per cog (4.12mm Campag. vs. 3.95mm
Shimano). This results in an accumulated error of 1.53mm over the
course of 9 shifts, which is closer than the 9sp difference of 0.23mm
(1.84mm cumulative). It'll work just fine.

It really works. If you set the system to shift Shimano 10, just
increase the cable tension by ~1½ turns and put in the Campy cassette.
In some bikes, you don't even have to adjust the cable stops.

Should you want actual perfection, you get a pre 2001 Campy rear
derailleur and that shifts exactly Shimano spacing.
