Fortunately NY laws kept the victim from returning fire,
else it could have been a tragedy for the hapless juveniles,
damaged by society's failures.

This is what happens if you saturate society with guns.

But gosh, no "good guy with a gun" was able to stop the shooting? How
can that be?

I'm glad the laws kept him from returning fire. Imagine a 75
year old with blood clouding his eyesight emptying a 15 round magazine
into what he "thought" were the "bad guys".
As it turns out, no-one died and the criminals were caught.

Not fear. That's an apt description of our modern
procedures and processes in New York, not unlike Chicago,
Oakland etc.

Polk County FL is different in that regard.

I'm reminded of a nice resolution to a 2023 Chicago
carjacking and police pursuit. The offender eventually
crashed and was arrested. Later, he was convicted of
reckless driving, eluding police, resisting arrest and
sentenced to 4 years at which he complained loudly that he
had never been given time for his previous carjackings or
police chases.

Unfortunately for him that chase ended after he crossed the
County line and the Will County judge replied, "This is not
Cook County" and struck her gavel to adjourn.

But Guns don't shoot people. I did a study of this on the Web and I
cannot find a single instance where a firearm leaped to it's feet,
rushed out the door and started firing. No Sir! Not a single instance.

Of course he was using a shotgun or a rifle and of course he wasn't in
a crowded place. But the point was that he knew what he was about and
did it.

As for a pistol in a crowded place :-) That all depends on who is
doing the shooting :-) I was a fairly good pistol shooter - 2 State
championships in one year and selected to shoot on the Strategic Air
Command team and I believe if I shot at someone he would get hit and
no other :-)

Utterly different situations.

Carefully and quietly tracking deer and lining up a shot has
zero relevance to defending against a human threat. Any
human deadly threat, not only a 'two way range'.

Knives for example:

Actually, my comment was meant to question the occasional claim that an

I've told and Andrew have told you over and over but you just don't
listed.
So SEE BLOW for lists of firearms with exactly the same rate of fire
as the dreaded AR.
Do try to be a bit more rational in future posts.

As for those huge AR magazines see any "magazine shop" as they
certainly supply 5 and 10 round magazines.

To summarize:

My point was, by your description, your grandfather did not need to fire
30 rounds rapidly to take down a deer. IOW, that capability isn't needed
for legitimate deer hunting.

Your attempted rebuttal: "Lots of guns fire rapidly."

How do you not see that your point does not rebut mine?

No one is attacking or defending deer hunting as regards 2d
Amendment.

Patiently lining up a shot on a deer is utterly and
completely irrelevant to defending against a human threat.
Those incidents are decided in decimals of a second not
several deliberate minutes.

Typical event shows <2 seconds from first display of
attacker's weapon to fatal shot in this one minute report:

And deer do not return fire so subsequent rounds are
irrelevant in almost all cases. The usual aftermath of a
poor deer shot is long tedious tracking, not another round.

Fortunately NY laws kept the victim from returning
fire, else it could
have been a tragedy for the hapless juveniles,
damaged by society's
failures.
This is what happens if you saturate society with guns.
According to the article, all of the criminals were
teens.
It's probably easier to buy a stolen gun that a bottle
of beer.

But gosh, no "good guy with a gun" was able to stop
the shooting? How
can that be?
I'm glad the laws kept him from returning fire.
Imagine a 75
year old with blood clouding his eyesight emptying a 15
round magazine
into what he "thought" were the "bad guys".
Well (:-) my grandfather well into his 70's, and maybe
80's, was still
hunting and using 1 bullet for 1 deer.
Gosh! He didn't need a 30 round magazine and the ability
to empty it
into his prey within a minute?
I've told and Andrew have told you over and over but you
just don't
listed.
So SEE BLOW for lists of firearms with exactly the same
rate of fire
as the dreaded AR.
Do try to be a bit more rational in future posts.

As for those huge AR magazines see any "magazine shop" as
they
certainly supply 5 and 10 round magazines.
My point was, by your description, your grandfather did not
need to fire 30 rounds rapidly to take down a deer. IOW,
that capability isn't needed for legitimate deer hunting.
Typical event shows <2 seconds from first display of
http://youtu.be/D2iv4bE9cLM
And deer do not return fire so subsequent rounds are
irrelevant in almost all cases. The usual aftermath of a
poor deer shot is long tedious tracking, not another round.
I was attempting to reply to the "Imagine "a 75 year old with blood
clouding his eyesight" by saying my grandpa could see perfectly even
older thn75.\

The report said that. he was "struck in the face" and "covered

I was not saying 75 year olds can't have perfect eyesight,
though it's "normal" to have cataracts at that age. Perfect eyesight
would be the exception.

PS I used to teach the local police how to shoot. The local
sheriff (delegado) couldn't hit a barn door with a shotgun
(literally). We used to go to an old abandoned house, and I taped a
target to the door. On his first attempt he managed to hit some tiles
on the roof. That from around 10 meters.
LOL. It's a good job "delegados" are lawyers and do not do any
street work.

But some people are defending widespread availability of the

You just completely destroyed Krygowski's message of peace, love and brotherhood.
My message is different. It's that people don't have to be as timid and
fearful as they usually are. The world really isn't so scary.
...and yet you're afraid respond to me like a man.
Look up the widespread internet advice about not responding to trolls.

Not practically seen anything that rude, if anything Tom is ruder!

And even if your obsession is petty, surely there are better things to do?

All I said was: "Nothing can make bicycling among truck and car
traffic safe. I very seldom do it anymore."

Krygowski followed with: "If you lack the competence or minimal
courage and are unwilling to learn, keep trucking your pedal vehicle
to a bike path and riding back and forth. That's too boring for me,
but maybe someday I'll be in the same state. Although I hope not."

Yeah, Tom is pretty rude. Krygowski doesn't run and hide from him, so
I guess I'm being effective.

Oh, yeah, I have plenty of things to do, but slapping Krygowski around
is easy and doesn't take much time.

It's not as though I felt hurt by his petty insult, but it started me
to see what kind of a person he was. He has since proven that my first
observation was correct by continuing his childish insults, which he
foolishly seems to believe bother me.

Bottom line, I enjoy kicking the feet out from under ass holes.

No. One was an opinion and a preference, not directed to anyone in
particular. The other was intended as an insult, directed at me, in
regards to issues that have no tangible effect on Krygowski.

But hey, nobody makes you read what I post.

Nobody makes him read what I post either, but he can't stand not

Well, as I said, I've worked in places where saying it once gets you a
fist in the mouth and I'm not sure what would happen if you repeated
it over and over?

We did have one bloke that every night before getting into bed pissed
in the corner of the bedroom. His Room Mate got sort of fed up and one
night wailed him a few good ones, slept in someone else's hooch caught
the Chopper into town and reported to me saying, "well I guess I'll
have to resign", I moved him over to another project and "forgot" to
schedule a replacement on the next helicopter :-) When the project
manager got all feisty about "Where's my man!" I told him I was having
a lot of problems locating anyone wanted to sleep in a yellow stained
bedroom :-)

group, but it was clear he wanted a fight, so here we are. Now, he's
pretending to be a victim, but he can't escape without leaving the
group. I sure hope he doesn't do that.

You picked a fight with me and now you claim I'm a troll because you
can't deal with what I say. Instead of responding to me like a man,
you talk about me to third parties like snotty little 12/13 year old
girls do.

Frank never picked a fight, you whiny thin-skinned narcissist.
Well, Frank did call him a coward a number of times... I've worked in
places where that would get you a punch in the face :-)
I didn't use the word "coward" until Mr. Tricycle Rider went on the
attack, then went on and on about his need to carry a loaded and
chambered handgun on a quiet bike trail where young mothers walk pushing
baby carriages.

Yes, the word was not diplomatic, but it still seems accurate. He is
clearly more fearful than anyone else in this discussion group, and than
any of my many dozens of cycling friends.

If you don't like "coward," substitute the synonym you prefer.

Krygowski is the coward. He's afraid to reply to me directly. He's
lived a cowardly life as a teacher, avoiding any kind of risk.

He reacted like a snowflake to my reference to a lack of competence.
He's been in high dudgeon mode ever since.

That's from the guy who's afraid to respond to me directly without
snipping what I post. Instead he talks about me to third parties like
a bratty twelve year old girl hoping to turn people against me. That's
not working very well
