I wonder if somebody else might buy the name....

The article notes "More generally, 2023 saw a large number of bicycle
companies go out of business, including industry stalwart distributors
as well as household names."

Any idea of who some of those might be?

I always loved "King of Mercia" as the name for a bike model. But I have

I always loved "King of Mercia" as the name for a bike
model. But I have no experience riding one.
First rate British builder of many styles so handling will
vary (race bikes, TT, Audax, full tour etc).

It did seem to be mainly custom frames at least when I had a look about the
website few weeks back, when this story broke.

Which possibly didn’t help?

Mercian is one of the best handling steel road bikes I have ever ridden. The loss of that will certainly be felt by their fans.
