Cues is coming to the curly bar folks! Be that roadies or Gravel folks, I
have some on the old commute beast, it seems slightly more clunky though as
the cassette has impressive range, has made it more versatile.

While london hardly has much elevation topping out at the 400/500ft range
is one hill on the very Southern edge of what can honestly be called London
that is part of a escarpment that gets to 800ft but it’s the raggedy edge
of what is believably London, but such gradient can occasionally be on the
steep side, and with a heavy commute bike, having a low gear is useful.

But it will be challnging to upgrade my old 2x8 gravel bike:

It looks like mechanical disc brakes can only be combined with 1x drives
with no front changer.

I upgraded my 9 speed gravel bike mainly as I didn’t like cable disks
mainly lack of power, plus I found in truly bog snorkelling conditions mud
got into cable disks callipers, where as Hydraulicsbeing sealed it’s a wash
off and carry on.

My bike is now mix of Tiagra (shifters and brake callipers) GRX (Rear mech
and chainset) neither is needed but upgraded/or replacement when stuff wore
out. Sora (Front mech) it perhaps is a bit slow, but front mech aren’t
known for being snappy so meh!

As ever with drop bars it’s the shifters that cost £££! Derailleur aren’t
expensive even just upgrades, such as moving from Tiagra to GRX which gave
me ability to run a larger cassette plus has a clutch to keep the chain
from eating the chain stays, (£50) ish which is quite reasonable for a
upgrade.

Kinda depends on what you want to do I guess, and what if anything want to
upgrade, I’d expect parts to be around for years but then again I don’t
routinely need new shifters or mech’s!
