I've been looking for some weird Wald high-rise for a project bike.
The ones I'm thinking of have a large useless forward curvature as
they rise before terminating in the flat handle part. All the local
shops are either uninterested or playing dumb. Anyone know of a
reputable online seller of such oddities?

Perhaps you can discover the part number if it's in an online
catalog such as http://www.bikepartsusa.com/view.phtml/f_b__Wald
Knowing the part number would help in ordering.

One of these?

Or you could look in their catalog to find exactly the one you want:

What I believe you are looking for is called a Ramshorn handlebar.
They were used on some musclebikes back in the late 60's and early
70's. If modern repops are to be found I am unaware of them. If you
find a pair in good shape be prepared to pay a good dollar for them as
they are very collectable and sought after.

Here is an example of a pair on a 1968 F-Series Murray
Eliminator-Streeter.

The picture is located on my F-Series Murray Eliminator website, the
ONLY site about these bikes on the net. (Soon to have it's new home at
dixiebicycles.com)

Thanks for all the leads. The bars I'm thinking of are the model 832
in the Wald catalog. A similar idea to the old ramshorn bars of those
old chopper bikes, but not quite as flashy. The usual suspects, such
as bikepartsusa, don't seem to carry them. ALL the LBS carry Wald
parts of one type or another, but have been unhelpful in this quest.
I'm sure there's a store somewhere that has this $10 item hanging on a
wall collecting dust. I just need to find it.

Dear PaperCut,

Aha! Here's what the Wald model 832 looks like:

Nothing weird about them--Lance probably uses a pair
when training.
