I hadn’t to be honest, do seem somewhat a solution in search of problem, ie
that between SPD or similar which are easy to clip in/out from or Flat
Pedal systems which though heavy allow foot placement.

Be very careful with pedal systems. SpD's are pretty much the ultimate. I use Look Keo and grey cleats but long ago I was using an "easier to get into" system which turned out to also be a LOT easier to accidentally clip out of. (Lollipops)
